ALL ABOUT MIA – Review by Flavia, JCoSS

miaI can swear, I can joke,

It’s All About Mia,

If she drinks, if she smokes,

She goes out with Stella,

And you see her hanging out with Stella, Kimmie and Mikey,

Everybody their best friends,

Cause she’s the mess in the middle.

She’s more than just a picture,

She’s a daughter and sister,

Sometimes it’s hard for her to show,

She’s got two sisters,

And one of them is Audrey,

one more, there is Grace.

Some days she’s broke,

Some days she’s rich,

Some days she’s nice,

Some days she can be a witch,

Some days she’s strong,

Most days she quits,

She don’t let it show,

But she’s been through problems.

I can swear, I can joke,

It’s All About Mia,

If she drinks, if she smokes,

She goes out with Stella,

And you see her hanging out with Stella, Kimmie and Mikey,

Everybody their best friends,

Cause she’s the mess in the middle.

She’s more than just a number,

She’s a hater and a lover,

Sometimes it’s hard for her to show,

That she’s more than just a title,

Or a comment going viral,

There’s more to her than people know.

Some days she’s broke,

Some days she’s rich,

Some days she’s nice,

Some days she can be a witch,

Some days she’s strong,

Most days she’s quits,

She don’t let it show,

But she’s been through problems.

I can swear, I can joke,

It’s All About Mia,

If she drinks, if she smokes,

She goes out with Stella,

And you see her hanging out with Stella, Kimmie and Mikey,

Everybody their best friends,

Cause she’s the mess in the middle.

These song lyrics are from Pretty Girl by Maggie Lindemann.

THE MOONLIGHT DREAMERS – Review by Carmel, JCoSS

moonlightFour girls with such a strong friendship bond, so magical that it’s as if a fairy dropped by in the night and sprinkled fairy dust to create friendship with her magical wand,

All very different lives they live compared to each other; Amber, the imaginative one and dreamer, who has such love for words, Maali, the photographer, loving the adventure that fulfils in her street, Sky, the poet, being able to take words from anywhere and form them in to a powerful poem, and Rose, the model – all fed up with their lives, who knew they would be friends, best of friends with one another,

What I love about the structure of this book is that different lives are in each chapter making it more exciting and leaving people on a hook,

Read this book if sometimes it’s like life has no point to you, it will show you the meaning of life and friendship too,

If you have a love for imagination, words and are interested in puzzles in people’s lives too, then this will definitely be the perfect book for you,

I hope this has helped you decide whether you would like to read this book or not, if you do, I hope you like it, like it a lot.

ALL ABOUT MIA – Review by Carmel, JCoSS

miaThis is a book named All About Mia, but to Mia the title is her opposite idea,

This book made me laugh real hard which I’m sure it’ll make you do, Reminding me of my sister, stuck bang in the middle with two “perfect siblings” you would agree on that one too,

With her straight-A older sister Grace, And her young sis Audrey who has talent for swimming who everyone thinks should compete in an Olympic race,

Then there’s Mia THE DISAPPOINTMENT CHILD, with her need to get wasted and her fashion sense of which is very wild,

From what I’ve written I’m guessing you think Mia is a total disaster, but in fact she’s my favourite character who continues to make me burst out with laughter,

If you’re into a bit of comedy and teenage lifestyle too, then this is definitely the book for you,

Read this book if you can relate to middle Mia the odd one out , with everyone always talking about how great your siblings are and they are what everything is always about,

I rate this book a full 5-star, as I hardly wanted to put my book down, wanting to carry on and read real far,

I hope this has helped you decide whether you would like to read this book or not if you do I hope you like it, like it a lot.

REMIX – Review by Isaac, JCoSS

So, this book called Remix includes,

Two best friends who are called Kaz and Rubes

As they’ve finished their tests,

They can go to a fest,

Full of music and fun and ice cubes.

But it might not all be quite what is seemed,

‘Cos the two best friends seem to have teamed,

With Tom, Stu and Lee,

Lauren and Parvati,

So it might not be what the girls dreamed…

So Kaz has just been dumped by Tom,

And on her life it has dropped a bomb,

Hoping to impress,

She wears her nicest dress,

And it might work not before too long…

It still confuses me that,

I had never heart of Non Pratt,

I was really amazed

In so many ways

I even read a bit out to my cat!

My favourite character of all,

Is Ruby, not just ‘cos she’s cool,

She’s messy, just like me

A great personality,

And we both go around like we’re fools.

And I think that this book intervenes,

With the meanings of being a teen,

Full of upset and fear,

And heartbreaking and beer,

Things happen we might not have foreseen.

To conclude this, I truly think you

Will love this as much as I do

You will like it a lot,

All the twists in the plot

So buy this book and go read it too!

MALADAPTED – Review by Rafi, JCoSS

maladapted

This book is amazing I hope you agree,
I moved closer to the book as I read silently,
Every page left me speechless I couldn’t believe my eyes,
Gripping plots and characters Richard Kurti is very wise.

Cillian and Tess are the main characters in this book,
Who become friends but everything goes gobbledygook,
Cillian is a normal boy but has powers he doesn’t know about,
Tess hides everything inside and just wants to cry out.

Every battle left me wondering who is wrong and who is right,
Or is this really happening, who’s going to win the fight,
All the plot twists made my mouth swing wide open,
I can’t wait for the sequel, Richard’s making one I’m hoping.

The book is set in a faraway future in a dystopian town,
The place is very sophisticated with technology all around,
Some people don’t like this they call themselves Revelation,
They are terrorists that want to destroy every tech creation.

The other group in this book is called P8
They created Cillian and are deciding his fate,
Beware this book can get gory in some places,
So make sure you hide little children’s faces…

This book is a must-read for young teenagers like me,
It’s packed with all you need – who cares about Vitamin C!
Richard Kurti you could be the next Ian Fleming, your book is the best,
I’ve told you all I can say, read Maladapted to find out the rest.

WING JONES – Review by Carmel, JCoSS

wingWhat I love about this book is that it teaches you how to move on from the past, let loose and have fun, I guess for Wing that is to run run run.

If you have a love for adventure and a bit of romance too, plus emotion and happiness, this will be the perfect book for you.

Being a runner myself I especially like the character Wing, as even with all her hard times she manages to achieve and climbs.

This book is like a guideline to life; it shows you how to believe in yourself and be proud, be confident and overcome your fears, as Wing does with a big crowd.

I rate this book a full 5 star as it makes me want to right now run, run real far.

After reading this book you’ll know definitely not to judge a book by its colour, as Wing shows us being different is a great thing, even if you’re like no other.

Read this book if any puzzles in life come in your way; it can calm you , make you realise that you’re special, and help you come around in your every day.

I hope this has made you realise if you would like to read this book or not; if you do, I hope you like it, like it a lot.

THE MOONLIGHT DREAMERS – Review by Lucy, JCoSS

moonlightRating 5 stars BRILLIANT!

Age recommendation from 12 -16

Sky is a young girl who lives with her dad; she is an inspiring poet but has stage fright that drives her mad.

Sky and Rose’s parents date, she aspires to be a patissier so cakes she can create.

Amber has two dads, they are gay; this leads to girls at school staying away.

Maali has problems on how to talk to boys; she will never be their toy.

A group of girls all unique, growing up to know what’s chic.

I love all the inspirational phrases, such as one I’m going to quote;

‘Be yourself everyone else is taken’.

Everyone can relate to something in this book – that can’t be mistaken.

A brilliant book, one of my current best, top of the pile on my desk.

This book is inspirational and will set you free,

None of the girls care about their makeup, looks or wayward hair.

But when all goes wrong they are there for each other,

Like having a special sister or brother.

That’s what I like; it reminds me it’s ok to be me.

As I mature, I realise through this book that’s the golden key.

It’s ok to be original, that’s what is amazing about this book.

With adult themes of rape, sexting, friendship, LGBT, relationships and originality to keep you on the hook.

The book is very girly so boys may not enjoy it as much,

But should give it a try and learn about girls’ feelings as such.

You should read this book if you need a little bit of inspiration in your life,

To be guided by the Moon Light.
